Editorial and Citation Standards

We want every Disciple Lifestyle resource to honor God, serve readers faithfully, and give proper credit to the people and organizations whose work helps inform it.

Scripture is our primary authority. Other sources can help explain history, language, culture, and interpretation, but they do not replace careful reading of the biblical text in context.

Our citation practice

    Scripture

    Every biblical quotation or reference identifies the book, chapter, verse range, and translation. When a resource uses references without reproducing the passage, we provide a reading link whenever practical.

    Direct quotations

    Words taken directly from another author or organization are placed in quotation marks or a quotation block and credited near the quotation. Longer works also include full source details in their notes or bibliography.

  3. 03

    Paraphrases and adapted material

    When another source materially shapes an explanation, outline, or activity, we identify it with language such as adapted from or based on. Changing the wording does not remove the responsibility to give credit.

    Research and historical claims

    Specific historical facts, statistics, research findings, and claims that a reader may reasonably want to verify are supported by an authoritative source. We prefer original documents, official organizations, and primary research.

    Original ministry content

    Devotional reflections, applications, discussion questions, and prayers written for Disciple Lifestyle are identified as our original ministry content unless a source note says otherwise. Artificial intelligence is an editing and research aid, not an authority or cited source.

  6. 06

    Images and media

    Third-party photographs, artwork, video, and audio are used only with permission, an appropriate license, or a valid public-domain basis. Creator and license credit is included when the source or license requires it.

Bible translation notices

Each resource includes the copyright or permissions notice required by every Bible translation it quotes. References and links are also marked with the translation being used. Unless a resource states otherwise, new Disciple Lifestyle resources use the English Standard Version.

We are not infallible. When we discover a meaningful factual, biblical, attribution, or copyright error, we correct it. We welcome thoughtful, gracious feedback and encourage every reader to examine Scripture personally and seek wisdom within a faithful local church.
